Born in Youngstown, Ohio, the heart of the country’s steel industrial complex and an agricultural community of grains, crops and apple orchards. A creative child, Christian found ways to express his artistic abilities at a young age in drawing, painting, and sculpture. Later, as a young adult, developing his skills in photography, graphic design, and web development. His influences originate from the support of creative parents and personal exploration of philosophy, spirituality and international travel. Christian graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Advertising Art Direction. Christian’s education also includes accredited studies from Parsons School of Design and Fashion Institute of Technology.
Christian’s paintings begin with a technique of laying the canvas flat on the ground, while the force of gravity and tilt of the frame creates a marbling effect. Gravity influences the chaos in each painting symbolizing the force of nature and underlining the notion that unpredictability is inescapable. Gravity ages us while in-turn keeping both feet on the ground. A metaphor for our humanity. The force that aids in the process of death also gives life to the environment that protects us. The resulting background is abstract and chaotic. The organic flow is representative of nature. Layered over top is geometric line-work in gold and silver leaf. Not to overpower or distract from the beauty of nature, these stagnant lines represent Christian’s desire to find harmony in the disorderly. A search for spiritual identity in sublime landscapes.
